Lightweight disc golf discs definitely deserve their own category - a wide range of players can use them. Discs weighing of 130 to 160 grams usually fall into this category. Let's summarize in a few points why and in which cases it is good to throw discs in lower weights:

  • basic premise: you drop the lighter disc out of your hand faster than its full weight equivalent (170+ grams)
  • will work better for players with less power (which are typically children and women, but it can be anyone) - generally you can throw further with those discs
  • They are good for throws uphill and with the tail wind
  • some of the discs float on water and do not sink - discs under 140 g or special swimming discs such as Innova Dragon DX
